Stone Bruise
What is a Stone Bruise?
With any injury, especially a bruise, it is important to think about P.R.I.C.E.
A bruise is the discoloration of the skin that results from an injury or damage to the skin. The blood vessels below the skin are damaged causing them to leak and pool into the surrounding tissue. This pooling can show up as a variety of colours, from purple through to yellow (you may know this, as most people have sustained bruising at some point in their lives).
A Stone Bruise can be described as pain experienced under the foot or heel. This may literally be as a result of stepping on a stone.. or from another kind of impact towards the foot causing bruising and pain.
Stone Bruises can last for several weeks until the tissues have healed ( the blood that pooled is gradually metabolized).
