What is Metatarsalgia

Metatarsalgia describes pain experienced in and around the ball of your foot. The metatarsals are the bones that connect the ankle bones to the toes and these are the bones primarily affected. Imagine all the weight these tiny bones support.... whether you are standing, walking, running or jumping, the bones in your feet take a huge impact throughout the day. This can lead to pain.
Causes
Wearing poorly fitted shoes or footwear with little support
Arthritis, Gout, Bunions, Morton's Neuroma or Stress fractures are some of the conditions of the foot that can cause metatarsalgia
Sports, especially high impact sports like running
Obesity, which can cause increased pressure on the feet
High arches, Flat feet or other structural abnormalities can cause cause metatarsalgia
Symptoms
Sharp, aching or burning pain in the ball of your foot
Pain in when you stand, walk or run
Pain when walking barefoot (even worse...on a hard surface)
Improvement in symptoms during relaxation or rest time
