Broken Toe

Picture
No one likes having a broken bone!! This is usually a very painful experience and if you suspect you have a broken bone (even if it's just your pinky) it is important to have it checked out by a medical healthcare professional. Rest assured, broken toes are a very common injury and can arise from impact, from something falling on your toe, or even a painful toe-stubbing incident. Depending on the severity of the break, your doctor may advise taping of the broken toe to a neighboring toe for support. A cast maybe needed it the break is significant or complicated.

If you have a broken toe, you may experience, pain in and around the area of the break. Also inflammation/ swelling and sometimes a change in colour of the toe (possibly severe bruising and inflammation). If there is also an open wound surrounding the break, you may be at risk from infection so take precautions to keep the wound clean and covered. Any break can increase the risk of Osteo Arthritis and the likelihood of this is increased if the break occurs in and around the joint.
