What is Osteo Arthritis
Osteoarthritis is also called 'degenerative joint disease' and is very common, especially in the aging population. The joints experience wear and tear after years of heavy use and this can lead to the erosion of the cartilage that protects the bones from rubbing against each other. Cartilage tends to be found at the end of bones and it allows the joint to move and flex easily and smoothly, and most importantly, without pain.
This condition has more likelihood of developing if you have experienced a chronic injury (for example an ankle sprain or fracture somewhere in your foot) or it can occur over time if you have abnormal foot mechanics, such as high arches.
