Diseases of the Foot
Cancers found in the foot: Skin Cancer can occur anywhere on the body, including the foot. Check for changes in your skin and ANY changes in moles that happen to be located on the foot (including in between your toes and on the sole of your foot)
Raynaud's Disease: This disease affects the smaller arteries that supply blood to the skin, to narrow. This is usually in response to cold or stress. If you experience Raynaud's Disease in your feet, your toes may turn white, blue or purple when they are exposed to cold and will likely feel numb until you find warmth again (and the arteries widen again, allowing increased blood flow)
Kohler disease: is a rare bone disorder found in the foot of children. The causes are uncertain but it possibly arises due to abnormalities or compression during an important growth period. The Navicular Bone in the foot (temporarily) loses its blood supply causing Avasular Necrosis, a similar state to bone death. It is most commonly found in boys.
Symptoms
Sever's disease: This disease is most commonly seen in children. The Achilles Tendon pulls on the growth plate (the apophysis) of the bone of the heel causing pain.
So your child has Sever's disease... now what?
Ollier Disease: This is a rare disorder where the bones develop abnormally (Skeletal Dysplasia). This may be a congenital condition, but may only become apparent as the child grows and it becomes obvious that the bones are not developing correctly. The condition is likely due to a genetic abnormality and there is no known cure. Surgery may be recommended if fractures of defects are problematic for the individual.
