Athletes Foot (Tinea Pedis)

Athlete's foot is a fungal skin infection that tends to start in between the toes. The infection can spread around the foot and can be cross contaminated to other parts of the body or to other people if using careless hygiene. It can occur after feet get sweaty in hot and humid climates or by wearing tight shoes or damp socks and can develop on one or both feet. The Fungi, Dermatophytes are what cause athletes foot. These pesky organisms also cause Ring Worm and Jock Itch.
Causes:
1. Sweating of the feet that allows favorable growth conditions for the fungus
2. Shared clothing or furniture
3. Walking barefoot in public areas
Symptoms of athlete's foot
1. Itchy, scaly rash.
2. Cracked, scaly, peeling skin between the toes
3. Red, pink, purple or greying scaly skin on the foot which can become inflamed
4. Painful blisters on the bottom of the foot
